NEW TITHE BARN - PLANNED FOR OPENING FOR THE 2008 SEASON

The tithe barn will be built to an incredibly high and authentic standard in local ham stone. This is the same stone as the three other buildings in the Mill complex. We shall use slate for the roof, again as in the other three buildings. The roof internally will feature exposed beams in a vaulted style and will look spectacular. Sound insulation will be to a very high standard.

The artist’s impressions clearly demonstrates the classic nature of the structure, which will undoubtedly prove a real asset to the community.

During the construction of the building, very little has changed from these artists impressions. The Hog Roast has moved to the wall alongside the bar, while there are no plans to construct the Minstrels gallery.

The Tithe Barn, is being constructed to the West Side of the existing Marquee. Following the completion of the Tithe Barn, the marquee will be removed and the area landscaped

Ground Works Commenced in early June. - By 19th June 2007, the site has been dug out, levelled, and filled with hardcore.

Throughout the summer, work has continued, with foundation trenches being dug and filled with concrete.  The below floor block walls have been built,

and the metal reinforcing for the external buttresses fabricated and erected.

  .

Progress continued on the walls throughout the Autumn of 2007, as the weather proved to be very favourable.

In late November 2007, the vast lengths of Oak arrived direct from the Saw Mill, close to Le Mans in France. These lengths measuring up to 8 metres, will be shaped and worked by professional Joiners, to form the 6 main Arch Trusses which will be the main feature of the Oak Roof, which in turn will be one of the main features of the Main Hall. (see artist impressions).  The roof braces were joined using traditional wooden pegs, before being erected in January 2008.

On Monday 28th January 2008, the 6 Large Oak Trusses, each weighing around 2 1/2 Tonnes each were lifted into place above the Walls. The 28 Purlings were                                       then fitted between each of the Trusses and the Gable Walls of the Building.

By Mid February 2008, the Oak Trusses, and Purlings were in place, and the Gable Walls constructed. Work to Insulate and then Felt and Batten the main roof ready for the Slate Tiles will commence on Monday 25th February.

By late March, the exterior of the building was complete, and the removal of the scaffolding, reveals the true splendour of the building. Work continues to finish the Plumbing, and Electrical installations ready for the first functions in Mid April.
